About the Philadelphia Friends of the Projected Arts (PFPA)
Philadelphia Friends of the Projected Arts (PFPA)
While it is becoming easier to make and see many independent films it is becoming increasingly hard to see films properly presented and for filmmakers to monetize their efforts. This situation is already damaging the film community.
People these days are more likely to see a small film on their computer screen or on their home DVD player. Rarely, if ever, do people see these films with the proper audio and video projection on a big screen with a room full of strangers. A high quality projected presentation is required to truly appreciate the art of filmmaking which is dependent on appreciating small details.
Small filmmakers face the same challenges that the studios face but at a much greater detriment. Whereas file sharing and other online piracy can damage a studio’s profit margin, it can obliterate the career of small filmmakers who are reliant on DVD sales to pay their bills and prove to producers they are marketable for future projects.
The PFPA will work to advocate these issues and bring national attention to them and solicit funds for this purpose. Locally the PFPA will support venues that showcase the projected arts and hold events that educate the public about this crucial issue.
The PFPA is in the process of becoming a 501c3 in the state of PA.
